iTunes keeps changing my song genre s! | |||

Gang, I downloaded and installed the 6.0.2 update to iTunes today. Twice now I've double-clicked a song to begin playing it, only to see it disappear! Turns out that iTunes changed the song's genre, and it was no longer displayed (I had selected for a specific genre in the Browser). Is iTunes automatically grabbing info from Gracenote and updating my song info? If so, that is going to wipe out a LOT of customizing that I have done to my library. I don't see a preference to disable this. TIA, _d |

Of course there are tools to see exactly what traffic is going over your network connection, but a quick & dirty check wold be to simply disconnect your Mac from the network and see if that makes a difference. I believe that iTunes-Prefs-General: "Connect to Internet when needed" relates to contacting that Gracenote database. -- Sander Tekelenburg, <http://www.euronet.nl/~tekelenb/ Mac user: "Macs only have 40 viruses, tops!" Good suggestion. I have a feeling that if this isn'thappening to anyone else, that's probably not the case. Good suggestion about disconnecting, though. I can easily do so by turning off my Airport. What I was thinking of was something more specific, like "automatically update song info in library" as opposed to the regular Gracenote thing, which (I believe) is only activated when a CD is inserted into the computer. I'll give the airport disconnect a try and see what's up. So far this bug has only affected one album. Maybe it's something screwy with the drive that they're installed on, not saving the actual setting into the MP3 files? _d |

I think I've narrowed this down just a bit. I took a look at the song files in my music folder before and after changing the genre manually myself. The file modification date did not change. I tried it with a song from a different album, and the date changed immediately. So, for whatever reason, these song files are not being written to and saved by iTunes. I checked the files and they are not locked and the permissions are set to read and write. Not sure what else to do to fix them. _d |

I observed it. Songs which I had change the genre on switched. I switched them back, and they appear to have kept their new genre. This was really annoying, since I have smart playlists that exclude all of my wife's CCM (which includes some cross-over stuff that iTunes classified as 'rock' replacing my 'christian rock' label). So yeah, it did change it. -Stephen -- Space Age Cybernomad Stephen Adams malchus842SP DeleteThis (~=~) AMgmail.com (remove SPAM to reply) |
