..rar files are compressed files,(just like .ZIP files) you have to decompress
the file to get to the original file type which you may now be able to play
with the player

..rar is an archive, not a media format. First uncompress the archive with
WinRar.

i recently tried viewing a windows media video file when i encountered this
problem

I downloaded some music from a reliable source but get this error message on
media player 10. C00D1199. Codec used to compress file is not supported. Any
idea how to sort this out?
